St Paul’s Cathedral Choristers Visit

Choral Evensong

On Saturday 7th February 2004, we were delighted to welcome the Choristers of St Paul’s Cathedral, directed by John Scott, to sing Choral Evensong in St Mary Magdalene’s Church. Huw Williams, the Sub organist of St Paul’s played the organ, and Canon Lucy Winkett, the Precentor, preached a sermon.

The setting for the Canticles was Dyson in C Minor, and the anthem was Stanford’s ‘When the Lord turned again the captivity of Sion’. The Responses were by Malcolm Archer, and the congregation joined in with the singing of the two hymns, ‘When in our music God is glorified’ and ‘Ye holy angels bright’. At the end of the service Huw Williams played Gigout’s Toccata in B minor. The lessons were read by John Puddicombe and Janet Whelpdale, and the prayers were led by the Vicar.

The Mayor of Enfield attended, with a congregation of over 250 people from the parish and Enfield Deanery.
