Parish Magazine ~ July 2021
A prayer of St Gregory Nazianzus:
May Jesus give strength and power unto his people and Himself present to Himself His flock resplendent and spotless and worthy of the fold on high, in the habitation of them that rejoice in the splendour of the saints, so that in His temple everyone, both flock and shepherds together may say, Glory, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to Whom be all glory for ever and ever.

Hopefully we are coming out of lockdown on the 19th July so I am also hoping that we can restart our coffee morning get-togethers. Last year we were only able to hold 2 mornings because of Covid raising somewhere in the region of £400 but as a result of lockdown we have lost around £3,400!! You will remember that we decided to put the money towards a new kitchen in the Vestry .
I would love to restart the rota for the mornings to be held on the third Tuesday at 11a.m. each month.
However, I have lost 8 or so people who sadly feel they can no longer host these mornings for various reasons. It would be wonderful if I could get some new host volunteers - come on it is only once in a year after all and it is for your beautiful church and to raise money needed for the Vestry kitchen.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone past and present for holding these mornings for so many years full of laughter, chat, gorgeous cakes not forgetting coffee! Also for providing lovely things for the raffle and bring-and-buy.
So, if you (past or present) are willing to host a morning please email me on email@example.com so that I can put together a rota. I am happy to host the first morning on Tuesday 17th August 11a.m. at 3 Anabelle Court, Slades Hill and would be over the moon to see loads of you there so please make a note in your diary/calendar. I will also be happy to do my annual December Christmas morning and if I can persuade someone to play the piano we could still sing carols as always - so really I urgently need hosts to do September/October/November to get the rota started for the rest of this year and then hopefully on to 2022.
Best wishes to all - keep safe/keep smiling & keep carrying on - God bless - love & thanks
A few weeks ago I asked you if you could make a donation to Mary’s Meals as we had been unable to hold a Dinner Money collection for so long. As always, you really turned up trumps, raising an amazing £870. I am always blown away by your generosity. Thank you so much. Ken is going to keep the collection open until this weekend and will then send the money off to Mary’s Meals, where we know it will be put to good use.
Thank you again
The Vicar’s Blog website has contained a monthly article written by the vicar and can be found here: Vicar's Blog This was something initiated by Gordon in 2019 and, during the past year of lockdowns, has contained Mo’s email messages. With James installed as our new vicar and the easing of restrictions it is beginning a new season. Over the coming months there will be a series of short video teaching sessions in a more relaxed atmosphere. The first is now live on the website.
150th anniversary of the Great Northern Railway reaching Enfield
In connection with the 150th anniversary of the Great Northern Railway reaching Enfield with their branch line from Wood Green in 1871 a couple of mosaic murals will be unveiled in the station forecourt at Enfield Chase.
One of the murals depicts St Mary Magdalene Church and the old Windmill, which used to stand opposite in Old Park Road.
The unveiling will be in a small ceremony on Saturday 10th July at 14:30hrs. If you would like to attend please contact Dave Cockle 020 8366 2242 as places are limited.
