Parish Magazine March 2023

Dear Friends,
The Lenten season is meant to kindle a “bright sadness” in our hearts. It’s aim is to help us remember Christ, and to long for the relationship with God that we have lost. Lent offers a time to recover this relationship. The darkness of Lent allows the flame of the Holy Spirit to burn within our hearts until we are led to the radiance of the Resurrection.
With love and my prayers,
James

Prayer Practices for Lent
For Lent 2023, the Bishops of London Diocese are hosting online sessions exploring ancient ways of Christian prayer to help us Stay with God. These are available over 5 Tuesday evenings via Zoom beginning Tuesday 28 February. The zoom room will be open from 7:20pm for a sharp 7:30pm start.
We are planning to host the recordings in church during the daytime, on Thursdays following on from Holy Communion. If you would like to join us in church, please let James or Ken know. We would prefer to hold this as a group event; however, if you are unable to make Thursday mornings you could book your slot on Eventbrite using the link below and take part in the course from home.
For those who book online hand-outs will be sent out in an email the week before the start of the first session. Please do check your spam/junk folder. You can also access a full pack of handouts from london.anglican.org/lentprayer2023.

Clothing Exchange
As of now we will be collecting donations for this event. Please see Judy or Alison. Remember it is not a jumble sale! We are looking for new or nearly new items – the kind of thing that lurks in the back of your wardrobe but is never worn! 3 or 4 items per person would be great otherwise we could be inundated! And no donations can be accepted on the night as it all needs to be sorted and priced.
Then all you have to do is turn up at 7 o’clock on 18 March, pay your £3, enjoy a glass of fizz, admire the models as they show off the clothes and look out for a bargain. Easy! See you there.

Coffee and a Concert
If you attended the February Organ Recital in Church, presented by Keith Beniston, I am sure you will have found it enjoyable. I certainly did. There was a pleasant variety of music presented, beautifully played.
On Wednesday 8th March, after “Coffee and Cake”, which begins at 11:30am we shall have a concert which will be quite different. It will be presented by a band from Enfield Grammar School. Do come along and support the young people at 12:30pm.
Eleanor Pritchard.
Community Café – Free, warm, welcoming, safe.

Every Wednesday, from 1:30pm-3:30pm, we will be opening the hall for anyone and everyone as a free, warm, welcoming, and safe place to be for a couple of hours. Cups of tea or coffee will be provided along with the opportunity for somewhere warm to meet others in a friendly and safe space.
Coffee Mornings
Just a reminder that they will start again on the 21st March at Kate and Bob Bissett’s.
I am still hopeful that 2 gaps can be filled i.e. 15th August and 19th September – please contact me if you can help out.
Best wishes to all Rita
Ladychapel Memorial book
Every week we remember the anniversaries of death for different people. Their names are taken from two Memorial Books we keep. One for those whose ashes are interred in the Memorial Garden and a second, in the Lady Chapel, for people we wish to be remembered on a certain date (usually their death).
If you would like the name of someone to be remembered in the Ladychapel Memorial Book please speak to Maureen Rew, the cost is £25.
