Livestream Service 26-06-14: The Second Sunday after Trinity
Join us as we come together to celebrate God's love and mercy in our Parish Eucharist.
The Service begins at 10:00 am on Sunday morning, the livestream begins
approximately five minutes before the Service starts.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
St Mary Magdalene receives no funding from external sources, all monies required for the day to day running costs, maintaining, and keeping our beautiful church looking its best and also giving to external, worthwhile mission work is raised through our stewardship giving and fund-raising activities. We are a registered charity; audited accounts are published each year and filed with the Charity Commission and we are so grateful for the generous and sacrificial giving that makes our work possible.
Our clergy support, guide and strengthen us; they are there for us at times of need. We find solace in our beautiful building, which has provided the setting for so many memorable occasions in our lives. Every week we are moved by the beautiful music performed by our talented choir and organists. All of this has helped us to grow in faith, to discover the joy in following Christ, experience a feeling of belonging and a sense of purpose in serving others.
In an age where thousands feel isolated, suffer the effects of poverty, feel worthless and hopeless, what we do at St Mary Magdalene, Enfield is more important than ever. We want to share this with others in our community – but we need the resources to do this.
Opening hymn
Fill thou my life, O Lord my God
Fill thou my life, O Lord my God,
in every part with praise,
that my whole being may proclaim
thy being and thy ways.
Not for the lip of praise alone,
nor e’en the praising heart
I ask, but for a life made up
of praise in every part:
Praise in the common things of life,
its goings out and in;
praise in each duty and each deed,
however small and mean.
Fill every part of me with praise:
let all my being speak
of thee and of thy love, O Lord,
poor though I be and weak.
So shall no part of day or night
unblest or common be,
but all my life, in every step,
be fellowship with thee.
Collect
Lord, you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth: send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whoever lives is counted dead before you. Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The first reading
Genesis 18.1-15
The Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day. 2He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to the ground. 3He said, ‘My lord, if I find favour with you, do not pass by your servant. 4Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.’ So they said, ‘Do as you have said.’ 6And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, ‘Make ready quickly three measures of choice flour, knead it, and make cakes.’ 7Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. 8Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.
9They said to him, ‘Where is your wife Sarah?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’ 10Then one said, ‘I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son.’ And Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?’ 13The Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh, and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?” 14Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.’ 15But Sarah denied, saying, ‘I did not laugh’; for she was afraid. He said, ‘Oh yes, you did laugh.’

The second reading
Romans 5.1-8
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
6For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.

Gradual Hymn
As the disciples, when thy Son had left them
As the disciples, when thy Son had left them,
met in a love-feast, joyfully conversing,
all the stored memory of the Lord's last supper
fondly rehearsing;
So may we here, who gather now in friendship,
seek for the spirit of those earlier churches,
welcoming him who stands and for an entrance,
patiently searches.
As, when their converse closed and supper ended,
taking the bread and wine they made thanksgiving,
breaking and blessing, thus to have communion
with Christ the living;
So may we here, a company of faithful,
make this our love-feast and commemoration,
that in his Spirit we may have more worthy
participation.
And as they prayed and sang to thee rejoicing,
ere in the night-fall they embraced and parted,
in their hearts singing as they journeyed homeward,
brave and true-hearted;
So may we here, like grain that once was scattered
over a hill-side, now one bread united,
led by the Spirit, do thy work rejoicing,
lamps filled and lighted.
Gospel
Matthew 9.35-10.8
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
All: Glory to you O Lord
Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; 38therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’
10Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. 2These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax-collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.
5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ‘Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7As you go, proclaim the good news, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.” 8Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.

Offertory Hymn
My God, and is thy table spread
My God, and is thy table spread,
and doth thy cup with love o'erflow?
Thither be all thy children led,
and let them all thy sweetness know.
Hail, sacred feast which Jesus makes,
rich banquet of his flesh and blood!
Thrice happy he who here partakes
that sacred stream, that heavenly food.
Why are its bounties all in vain
before unwilling hearts displayed?
Was not for them the Victim slain?
Are they forbid the children's bread?
O let thy table honoured be,
and furnished well with joyful guests;
and may each soul salvation see,
that here its sacred pledges tastes.
Communion Hymn
I come with joy to meet my Lord
I come with joy to meet my Lord
Forgiven loved and free
In awe and wonder to recall
His life laid down for me
I come with Christians far and near
To find as all are fed
The new community of love
In Christ's communion bread
As Christ breaks bread and bids us share
Each proud division ends
The love that made us makes us one
And strangers now are friends
And thus with joy we meet our Lord
His presence always near
Is in such friendship better known
We see and praise Him here
Together met together bound
We'll go our different ways
And as His people in the world
We'll live and speak His praise

Post Communion Collect
Loving Father, we thank you for feeding us at the supper of your Son: sustain us with your Spirit, that we may serve you here on earth until our joy is complete in heaven, and we share in the eternal banquet with Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Recessional Hymn
The kingdom of God is justice and joy
The kingdom of God is justice and joy;
For Jesus restores what sin would destroy.
God's power and glory in Jesus we know;
And here and hereafter the kingdom shall grow.
The kingdom of God is mercy and grace;
The captives are freed, the sinners find place,
The outcast are welcomed God's banquet to share;
And hope is awakened in place of despair.
The kingdom of God is challenge and choice:
Believe the good news, repent and rejoice!
God's love for us sinners brought Christ to his cross:
Our crisis of judgement for gain or for loss.
God's kingdom is come, the gift and the goal;
In Jesus begun, in heaven made whole.
The heirs of the kingdom shall answer his call;
And all things cry “Glory!” to God all in all.
