Parish Magazine: November 2022

The Rev'd. Dr James Lawson vicar's blog

Dear Friends,

What we celebrate on the Feast of All Souls is the triumph of hope. Even the dead who, at their passing, were unprepared to meet their Maker are covered by the mantle of his mercy. Their flame lives on. By our prayers, we breathe on it, helping it drink up the oxygen of Christโ€™s love, to rise pure and strong. On no other day of the Churchโ€™s year do we see the bridge that links this world to the next more clearly. We see that our loved ones are not lost to us, nor we to them. We pray, too, for the unloved and unremembered, that the whole Church may be bound together in charity, embraced by Christโ€™s sacrifice. His victory holds all. This is the vital testimony we have to give to this โ€œpositiveโ€ but hopeless world of ours.

Love and prayers,

James.

Charity Dinner

On Saturday 12th November we will be holding a charity dinner in aid of Maryโ€™s Meals. I know it comes close on the heels of raising money for Ukraine but, as you know, it is an equally worthy cause that takes care of those far less fortunate than us and itโ€™s a long time since we did anything to support them.

There will be a three-course meal with drinks and will cost just ยฃ12 per person. Do let me know if you would like to come.

Judy

Pantomime โ€˜Oh yes he did! Oh no he didnโ€™t!โ€™

James has purchased tickets at ยฃ15 each to go and see Mother Goose at the Hackney Empire for the matinee performance on Saturday December 10th at 1:30pm. The journey is very straight forward โ€“ a train from Enfield Chase to Highbury and Islington, and another train to Hackney Central with about a 5-minute walk to the theatre. The 12:00pm train will get us to the Hackney Empire at around 12:45pm, giving plenty of time to find our seats and have a โ€˜comfortโ€™ break.

These are always excellent productions and well worth seeing. Please see James to book your place. Find out more here: https://hackneyempire.co.uk/whats-on/mother-goose/

Defibrillator Training Video

For those who missed Wednesdayโ€™s excellent Fellowship talk and demonstration given by Gill Bird on how to use our Defibrillator there is a link to a YouTube video made by the manufacturer here: https://youtu.be/b2T5_3GwUDg

The defibrillator, in its case, will be installed in the Choir Vestry above the piano and is available for the congregation and all users of the hall. We will also be posting a notice on our notice boards in due course.

Two things that were brought up at the meeting related to giving information to the emergency services were 1) The Church Postcode โ€“ EN2 7AJ and 2) our What3Words location โ€“ South Door price.glory.years and Hall Doors rich.free.tone. For those unfamiliar with What3Words, the entire globe has been divided into a 3-metre square grid with each square being given a unique three word combination. This is far more accurate than a postcode.

Lights of Love

Lights of Love is an opportunity where we invite the local community to remember those they love by making a dedication to those who have, or still do, light up their life. Dedications can be a fond memory, words of love or hopes for the future. Anything that brings people closer to their loved one/s.

Each dedication we receive is added to the display in our centre on Baker Street, Enfield and in our dedication book. For each dedication we receive, a hanging heart of love will also be sent that can be put on display in peopleโ€™s home.

Our annual Lights of Love ceremony will be held outside Microsoft Enfield, 33 Genotin Road, Enfield on Wednesday 7th December 2022 at 6:30pm. It will be a celebration of life and remembrance with readings, carols and the lighting of the Christmas Tree. All are welcome to attend and we invited everyone to stay after the ceremony for mince pies and mulled wine.
